SmartWalk aims to create a system for monitoring wellness and physical activity in the context of Intelligent Cities (CI).
The proportion of older people in the Central Region is increasing, as are the new regions, the Portuguese and Europe. In 2011 the Portuguese census showed that 22.5% of the population of Centro Region is 65 years old or more. The increase in the elderly leads to the need to promote a healthy aging, with autonomy and independence, and preserving a functional capacity. Additional to the concept of Active Aging is the concept of Aging not place for results of the desire of the permanent people in their homes as they age, despite declining events in physical and cognitive health.
This project brings together an experience of regional players in Science and Technology of the Polytechnic Islands on Survival, a data acquisition and protection, user interface design and systems usability assessment. The monitoring system is implemented in Águeda, a Human CI that is a member of the Open consortium and the Agile Smart Cities. Águeda has a data communication infrastructure spread over 700 luminaires in the city center, which is expanding in (é preciso corrigir o ingles)
